The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization working to drive bold, science-based action to rebuild Coastal Louisiana through advocacy, restoration and outreach. CRCL unites business leaders, scientists, landowners, national and local conservation groups, government agencies, hunters, anglers and a broad spectrum of concerned citizens to advance restoration for the benefit of people and nature.

CRCL is seeking a Science/Technical Director to be a senior, strategic player in the pursuit of our mission. The Science/Technical Director will ensure that the work of the organization is based in credible science and solid understanding of the technical challenges and opportunities associated with restoration projects and programs. The successful applicant will join an energetic, talented team and enjoy a high-energy, flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and reliable scientific and technical analysis to inform CRCL positions.
  • Analyze restoration opportunities to inform CRCL views on prioritization of projects and programs.
  • Evaluate the technical basis for, and progress of, restoration strategies, programs and projects.
  • Identify knowledge gaps important to inform decisions about restoration priorities and actions, and work with partners to catalyze efforts to fill such gaps.
  • Lead and support initiatives to integrate traditional ecological knowledge with scientific data to inform dialogue with stakeholders, including fishery interests.
  • Communicate relevant information and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Represent CRCL at scientific meetings, public meetings, press conferences and outreach events.
  • Participate in planning of CRCL’s State of the Coast bi-annual conference.
  • Advise CRCL’s on-the-ground habitat restoration activities.
  • Assist with special events, workshops, field trips and fundraising.

 

Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD in an ecological, coastal or other relevant technical field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in coastal science, coastal restoration, natural resources management, habitat conservation, engineering or other relevant field.
  • Familiarity with coastal restoration and protection programs and projects in Louisiana very important.
  • Knowledge of fisheries management and science a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven time and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as a highly-motivated, self-starter who knows how to take projects and run with them, and as a team player.
  • Sincere appreciation and enthusiasm for conservation and the coast of Louisiana.
  • Positive, solution-oriented, practical approach to natural resource management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, working knowledge of GIS.

 

Salary:            Salary commensurate with experience.
