CRCL is Looking for Experienced Paddlers for a Cypress Planting at Big Mar

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration, and RPM Ecosystems Gulf Coast LLC, Restore the Earth Foundation are looking for experienced canoe paddlers to come volunteer to plant cypress trees at Big Mar in Plaquemines Parish, LA. The objective of this volunteer project is to increase habitat quality and promote a healthy cypress forest on land that has been accumulating from sediment outflow from the Caernarvon Diversion. The restored cypress forest will provide critical habit for wildlife and provide storm protection to adjacent marsh and communities. When: Saturday March 12th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Where: Meet at Delacroix Corporation Boat Launch Off LA Hwy 39. Near Poydras, LA
GPS Coordinates: 29 51 45.55n 89 54 36.16w Detailed direction will be sent out closer to the event. All planting equipment (gloves, shovels, dibbles, etc.), lunch, and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers with their own canoes are preferred, but we may have extra canoes available depending on need (at least one canoe per 2 volunteers is needed). Volunteers will paddle a short ride out to the planting site and will plant from the canoe along the marsh edge. Airboats and flat boats will be on hand to provide assistance. Volunteers must be over 18 years old and provide their own life vests. Additional information, including detailed directions and what to bring, will be provided to volunteers prior to the event.
