CRCL Mission:
The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) drives bold, science-based action to rebuild Coastal Louisiana through outreach, restoration, and advocacy.

Position Summary:
The Restoration Associate will provide support to CRCL’s Habitat Restoration Program (HRP) and Oyster Shell Recycling Program (OSRP). The HRP provides community members and other stakeholders with the opportunity to participate in hands-on restoration work, to learn about how Louisiana’s coast functions to protect and provide for our communities, and to understand these elements within the context of larger restoration plans. The OSRP recycles oyster shell from New Orleans-area restaurants and uses it to restore oyster reefs that protect Louisiana's eroding coast line. The OSRP also engages the community in coastal restoration through restaurant partner promotion and volunteer shell bagging events.

Responsibilities will include coordinating volunteers in wetland restoration projects and oyster shell bagging events, supervising volunteers, maintaining equipment, creating outreach materials, and developing and implementing systems for volunteer recognition and evaluation. The Associate will occasionally assist with ecological monitoring, data entry, and promotional/outreach events.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Help plan and implement volunteer restoration projects across the coast of Louisiana
  • Prepare and purchase supplies for volunteer events
  • Recruit volunteers and track registration for volunteer events
  • Assist in leading volunteers during events
  • Document projects with photographs
  • Maintain all equipment used in restoration projects
  • Organize and restock the trailer and storage unit
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, management, recognition, and evaluation
  • Assist with collecting ecological monitoring data from restoration projects
  • Help increase the reach of CRCL’s Restoration Programs through outreach to potential partners
  • Assist staff with other CRCL programs including (but not limited to) the State of the Coast Conference, Stewardship Awards Banquet, meeting facilitation, and tabling at events

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Interest in coastal restoration and/or volunteer outreach programs
  •  Familiarity with wetland ecology and ability explain ecological concepts to others
  •  Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 software (SharePoint and OneNote a plus), understanding of database systems, and ability to use social media tools
  •  Positive attitude with excellent social and interpersonal skills
  •  Self-motivation – must be comfortable working without constant supervision
  •  Enthusiasm for physically demanding work outdoors in various weather and site conditions
  •  Comfort working in an office
  •  Ability to work atypical hours, weekends, and travel for sometimes several days at a time
  •  Strong verbal and written communication skills
  •  Propensity for organization and good time management
  •  Experience with towing and parking trailers up to 12 feet a plus
  •  Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and reliable transportation

Required Academic and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in one of the following fields: environmental studies, ecology, outreach, or education)
  • Previous work/volunteer/intern experience in an environmental or outreach field
