Ed Theriot

Edwin Theriot of Lafayette is originally from Gueydan. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in microbiology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Theriot worked at the Waterways Experiment Station, U.S. Army, ERDC, in Vicksburg, Miss., for 28 years, conducting research and research management in ecosystem restoration. He became director of the Environmental Laboratory, ERDC, and was assigned as program manager for the Mississippi Valley Division for 2002 and 2003. He served as a presidential appointee in Iraq in 2004 as senior adviser for water resources for secretaries of defense and the State Department under Ambassador Paul Bremer. Most recently, he served as executive director at the Institute for Coastal and Water Research, University of Louisiana. He is retired.
