About The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL):

Founded in 1988, CRCL was the state’s first nonprofit focused on addressing the loss of wetlands that provide valuable habitat and precious resources. The erosion of our coast threatens our communities, natural resources, and way of life. Our mission is to drive bold, science-based action to sustain a dynamic coastal Louisiana through engagement and advocacy.

Future Coastal Leaders (FCL):

CRCL developed the FCL initiative to inspire the next generation of home-grown leaders who will step up to the challenge of preserving our coast. High school-aged students are guided through a series of experiences that provide a broad understanding of coastal land loss and plans for restoration, offer insight into available careers, and connect them to professional networks and like-minded peers.

Spring 2022 FCL program:

Beginning Spring 2022, an introductory session will celebrate the kickoff of the spring semester’s learning experiences. From there, participants will complete a series of activities of their choosing, averaging one per month, culminating with a graduation ceremony in June. The activities to choose from include volunteer restoration events, applied science workshops, career & leadership development, and conference-setting education and networking opportunities. We offer a mix of virtual and socially distanced in-person activities tailored to accommodate Covid-19 concerns and precautions.  More information about the program is available in this brochure.

Virtual meetings will occur approximately one Tuesday evening per month, with in-person learning experiences offered throughout. Tuesday session dates are available in this tentative program schedule.

If you are interested in being a participant and/or mentoring a small group, please indicate so in this interest form.

CRCL has secured funding to allow a limited number of students to participate at no cost, BUT we want to go above and beyond that and need your help!

We encourage private schools that can contribute, programs that have resources to cover field trip activities, troop leaders who can provide transportation, or other contributions that can help offset expenses and allow more participants to join. Similarly, any foundations, businesses, philanthropists, or other entities that can help support this program by way of sponsorships are strongly encouraged to do so and invest in our youth. Please see our sponsorship guide.

Get to know us:

CRCL staffers bring a variety of knowledge and experiences to our work to help save the coast. We represent many different types of jobs needed to make change by working toward a better future for our coast, its communities and all individuals who live, work, and play here. We have partners in these efforts who also recognize the importance of fostering Future Coastal Leaders to help in this fight!
