Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana relocates to The Rigs at The Batture

New office space reflects significance of river to south Louisiana’s future

APRIL 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, the state’s first nonprofit dedicated to combating coastal land loss, has moved its office headquarters to The Rigs, a riverfront workspace located at The Batture, just upriver from Audubon Park in New Orleans.

The move, effective April 1, places CRCL on the Mississippi River batture, land beaten out over millennia by the river  now reimagined as a hub for restoration, innovation and community. The organization’s new home is a repurposed set of offshore oil platform buildings transformed into functional, light-filled offices with expansive views of the river, flexible workspaces and abundant outdoor workspaces.

“The location is perfect for us given the importance of the Mississippi River to Louisiana and to our mission,” said Kim Reyher, CRCL’s executive director. “This river built the land where our new home stands, and it’s the reason the city of New Orleans is where it is. We appreciate the flexibility of the space and find inspiration daily in the power of the river.”

“We’re honored to welcome CRCL to The Rigs. Their presence underscores the importance of the Mississippi River to our region’s past, present and future — and speaks to the spirit of innovation and sustainability that defines this space,” said Ben Jacobson, developer of The Batture.

With the relocation, CRCL has vacated its former offices on Canal Street. It retains its Restoration Headquarters in Violet, in St. Bernard Parish, home to its native plant nursery and frequent volunteer events.

Founded in 1988, CRCL has been at the forefront of coastal protection efforts in Louisiana for more than 35 years. The organization works across the state’s fragile coast, leveraging community engagement and science-backed advocacy to influence policy and drive on-the-ground restoration.
